The municipal Council continues with their current term. We have the privilege to lead the municipality and to make decisions for the citizens. The Council has decided to adopt an economic development plan. The objective of this plan is to increase the population, affordable housing and economic activities. To ensure success, we adopted certain strategic points as follows:
- Improve the visual aspect of the municipality, such as roadsides, landscaping and properties.
- Continue to develop and support cultural, social and recreational activities.
- Support the necessary infrastructure such as roads, buildings, etc.
- Provide good services for families and seniors.
- Continue to support and participate with community and non-profit organizations.
- Support or establish new projects.
- Continue to complete what is required to obtain government grants.
To achieve these goals, we must all be ambassadors and promoters of our municipality. We must spread the word and tell everyone that we live in a wonderful community. We must invite people that we meet to visit our municipality, and to come to establish or start a business. The more we attract people, the better the chances of attracting new businesses. We all have a role to play if we want to continue to develop a sense of belonging to our community and to provide a welcoming environment!

Message from the mayor
Welcome to the Municipality of L’Isle-aux-Allumettes.
We are one main island and several small islands surrounded by the Ottawa River in the Pontiac West section of the MRC Pontiac.
A large part of our municipality is zoned Agricultural. However we also have large areas zoned residential and commercial.
The main residential areas include the village of Chapeau and the hamlets of Demers Centre, Desjardinsville and St. Joseph.
Our businesses include: Farm Operations [beef, cash crop, dairy, sheep, hops and market gardeners], Construction Companies, Home Builders, Landscapers, Carpenters, Electricians, Plumbers, Outfitters, Dépanneurs, Bakery, Grocery and Butcher Shop, Gas Bar, Golf Club, Art Studios and Restaurants and many others.
We are minutes away from the business and employment centers of Pembroke, Petawawa and Chalk River.
Daycare services, English Schooling and French Schooling are available in our municipality. A Health Services Centre is open daily and provides access to nurses, doctors and other medical services.
Affordable land, affordable housing, affordable taxes and affordable hydro are a few of the benefits that you will find in our municipality.
Historically the Algonquin people were settled here before the French, Irish and Scottish immigrants arrived in the 1800’s. Many of other national descents have since come to live here.
Our cultural heritage is reflected and well represented in the art and music created by our local artists.
We have an abundance of nature, open spaces and excellent waterfront properties. A vast amount of public crown land is only minutes away.
The Ottawa River is our big playground for swimming, boating, canoe and kayak, water skiing, sea-doing and fishing.
Walking, cycling, golfing, bowling, yoga and exercise classes, card playing, soccer, hockey, softball, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, sleigh rides, ski-doing, and ATV riding are among the many activities available.
We are a very active community with several non-profit organizations, with many special events and an army of volunteers.
This is a safe community with a very low crime rate. You will find our mixed population of families and retired seniors to be friendly and helpful.
A warm welcome! An island paradise awaits! Come visit! Come play! Come live!
Do not hesitate to contact me for further information.
